Things you should know before hiring a maid

What is the maid levy?
As government regulation, an employer needs to pay a monthly tax, which is called maid levy, for every single foreign domestic worker that he/she employs.
How often do have maids to go for medical check ups?
Upon the maid's arrival he or she must undergo a medical examination by a certified medical Institution. Only after passing this medical checkup, the maid is allowed to work.
Who bears the medical expenses of the maid?
The employer is liable to pay all medical cost including hospitalization. It is highly recommended to buy insurance coverage for hospitalization expenses for the maid.

What to do if your maid got pregnant?
The maid is not allowed to work and must be repatriated immediately. Please contact our agency to cancel her work permit and arrange for her repatriation.

What to do if your maid went missing?
You need to report her missing to the police and you need to cancel her work permit immediately. You are then given 3 month guarantee.

Can maids be employed on part-time basis?
Presently government regulation does not allow part-time employment of maids.


In case employer not satisfy with maid's performance, what is procedure ?
We will counsel they to improve their performance. We will continue to train them and monitoring their progress. If maid don't reach acceptable standard, employment can inform us to arrange for replacement.

Who will take care of maid's family if she come to Malaysia Employer shall question all applicants to find out what will be the arrangement. Some applicant don't have enough backup. Their family rely too much on the applicant. Applicant may only be attracted by better salary but forget to make neccessary arrangement. Once she leave home and problem start to surface. Our agency provide necessary advise to employer during phone interview.

Salary deduction period ?
All employee work for salary. Maid may have salary deduction period as
agreed by our agreement.3. Communication with family They may miss them so much and may also affect from trouble in their home. Carefully manage their communication and give them advise when necessary.

What does Employment agencies' role ?
Employment agencies will take all finance risk. In case maid don't perform, you can request for replacement. It is expensive to bring in a foreigner e.g. air freight charges, test, training ..... etc

How to employ a good maid ?

Realistic objective and expectation

  1. You have to decide her main task - for example taking care of your kids. And follow up till she attain its objective ASAP. Focus on it. Maids come from different background and culture. Almost everything is new for her.They have to learn everything. Allow them to focus on your main objective and give them some time to adjust.Showing them the first time will be the best way to teach them to speed.
  2. Set a bench mark.
    Your maid could be younger than you. But you are more familiar with the job. Therefore if you can do it within an hour means the most your maid can do it within an hour. Set up realistic expectation will help worker to build up their confident and loyalty to your family. For outstanding performance shall be recognized. For under performance, employer shall provide guide line and motivation. Sometime you may find gentle word is more convincing than scolding.
  3. Select the right person. Experience is important. But don't just trust the bio data. Ask questions during the interview to find out more Married worker have more finance commitment than Single. And they shall be more committed to their job.However, married worker may miss her kid and husband. Single will have home sick too.
  4. Communication - your family shall able to communicate with worker effectively. It could be very different instruct your maid over the phone. Besides, kids may only learn English and Chinese nowadays.
  5. Educate them Education affect how we think and how we work. Educated worker's behavior are more predictable.Foolish people may believe that they can do silly thing without being detected. They may not consider the consequent. They could create a lot trouble to their employer.
  6. Build up relationship between your maid and your family No one can pay someone to love another person (what I meant is true love not acting). Good relationship need time, suitable environment and interactive. For example: when you are at home, your kid will play with you not your maid. Employer may consider letting your maid to play with your kid under their supervision.Once they build up good relationship. Your kids will feel more safe and comfortable. It may take 1 to 2 month to see the result.
  7. Loyalty Salary is not the only key factor for employee to stay. Study found out friendship between co workers, common goal, team spirit, recognition are important. No exception to your maid. Retaining good employee is required a lot afford.
